The Readings by SunChariot Newsletter
October 2013 Edition
Volume 5, Edition 10

Welcome back to the Readings by SunChariot newsletter!

And I hope you have been having a wonderful month of September. Over here it's been an education this past month, as I suppose you can say that all of life is. We can always learn new things from what is going on around us.  And I have always loved to learn new things. For me I could have been wonderfully happy  making a career of being a student full time, if I could figure out from whatever's going on  how to get paid for it. LOL

That aside, :-),.September for me was mostly lessons on patience and faith. Things I wanted kept almost coming to me, then backing off. then coming closer and backing off again. It just took a lot of patience and faith. And by now, after this month, I am happy with where I have come to be from all this in both areas.

Besides that, this edition of the newsletter has a lot to do with finding your happiness and with what we can do each of us to make the world a better place. Mainly because these are the questions I asked in the Asking about Life and Friendship readings of this edition. LOL

In my mind, the two are not unrelated topics anyway. Helping others and doing some good does lead to happy feelings overall. And I think anytime we help someone else,. we can't help helping ourselves as well. Not just from karma, but in other ways too.

I had an experience of that today, the day I am writing this (Sept 27/13) that made me really feel that. I had to go the bank this afternoon. And when I got there there were brightly coloured pictures hanging all over the place. One of the tellers had artistic talent and had done some paintings and made prints of them. The bank was selling them with the proceeds to go to Centraide, a charity near here.

I decided I needed to buy one and got a 8 x 10" print for $25.00. To put on the wall in my bedroom of the country house we are still just on the verge of buying (really just on the verge hopefully!, Just yesterday we made a bid on one)! It was this picture and I found it pretty. Printed on some kind of metallic paper that makes it bright and pretty.

I then ran off to the dollar store and got a frame for it and now it looks like this. :-)

Besides that I think it's pretty and it even speaks to me, and it is to me and does. Not only was I able to help others but it helps me. I intend to hang it in my bedroom near my bed as a visual reminder of my connection to others and that "charity starts at home". And having that there will be a help to me too. Win/win situation.

As I was thinking this afternoon on what we can actually do as individuals to create change or help make the world around us a better place,  my thoughts were around how so many people seem to look around and say no one else would do it, why should I?

I've heard people say that to me a number of times. To me,. it's not so much a question of what others are doing or not doing. Something is either right to do or wrong to do in and of itself regardless of what others do or not. Maybe it's knowing who you are or who you want to be. But I tend to follow the rule my father told me growing up that if everyone were doing a specific thing and it make the world a lesser place, then it is not right to do. On the other hand, if everyone were doing something and by doing so the world became a better place well then it's a good thing to do. It's kindof about imagining the action magnified, to me.

Enough people working in tandem can make a real difference, just as the amount I gave to the charity today when I bought that picture may not go that far, but if enough people contributed, just a bit each it could make a huge difference in the end. So I was thinking that wouldn't it be nice if instead of people asking why they should do this thing to be helpful if no one else is doing it, if instead they looked around and actually saw real people doing it and thought why don't they do it too?  Maybe it just takes a few of us who believe to get it started.

Oh, and I wish you a very Happy Halloween!

Quote of the Month

We live in the world when we love it.

Rabindranath Tagore

Not much to add to that except that it's my belief that we can make that choice to love life and our lives whenever we want to. It's our choice to make. We choose positive thoughts that make up happy with our lives and lead to loving feelings or negative ones that don't. But that choice is always ours to make as is what we choose to focus on. And when we focus on the good, the positive, the love-based, that is when the real living begins.

Tarot Demystified

Setting and working on your goals, using Tarot

A lot of people think that Tarot is just for predicting the future. Maybe because that is how it's usually portrayed in movies and books. Some use it for self-examination and self-discovery and it's an excellent tool for that as well. But really what you have in the Tarot is a system that can literally answer any question at all 9although on the rarest of occasions it won't and just tells you that you are better not to know the answer to what you asked just now).. But when you really stop to think about what you accomplish if you could have the answers to anything you needed to know, it's really quite amazing. In that sense, Tarot is almost limitless in its uses.

And yes the cards are an amazing tool for narrowing down and helping you accomplish your goals. Since our goals are what we aim for and what you work to accomplish, and it certainly increases our chances of getting things we want if we work on them, this can be a very worthwhile and important use for the cards.

As for narrowing down your goals, let's say you want things to change but are not quite sure what you want the outcome to be. Maybe two or more potential outcomes feel like they could be good ones for you and look equally promising. You'd have to choose one and commit to one to start working towards it, but how do you choose?

One way is to ask the cards the outcome of each path and then when you can see where each will lead, you can just choose the one that leads to the outcome you would most like to have. Having that knowledge simplifies the decision-making process a lot.

You can look at this from whichever angle you feel with give you the information that will help you make the best decision. Besides asking which outcome each path will lead you, you could also ask how each path would make you feel, what would be most and least fulfilling for you in each path, what unexpected things would you meet up with in each path, ,,,,you could ask anything you want to know at all that would help you to know. It's all really limited only by your imagination.

Once you have a good idea of what you want to accomplish, the cards can also be useful tools at this point. You could ask things like:
  • What do I need to know now that will help me to work on this in the best way?
  • What will be the most effective way to deal with any issues that come up as I work on this?
  • What skills will I most help me (and how can I best strengthen and hone those skills within myself)
  • What will I face from outside of myself that I will need to work on to succeed (and how to best work on it)?
  • What will I face inside myself as I work on this (and how to do so in the best ways)? or simply
  • What do I most need to know as I work on this? ...
Really the kinds of questions you could ask about setting and working on goals are endless. Anything at all it would help you to know,. you can ask. Confidence-building questions, questions on how others will react (if you did this what would they do...?), how your past affects how you will react now...how to best engage your unique inner talents.... pretty well anything.

These kinds of questions will give you want to need to work on and towards your goal. But my very favorite method for using the cards to work on our goals is to use them to create your goals.

In this method instead of asking what you need (to know) to achieve them you ask the cards for the steps you need to take to succeed. So let's say you exactly where you want to end up. Let's say your goal is that you want a job promotion. You can ask the cards what steps you can take that will help you achieve that. The  cards can very much list them all in that way, and give you concrete  steps you can work on to get to where you want to go (Unless for some reason what you are trying to achieve is not possible at which point the cards should be able to tell you that right away).

Then of course comes the real work,. you need to take the steps and follow the advice. In a few weeks to a  month you can stop again and ask the cards which future you are heading towards, and see if that job promotion is shown in your future yet. If so, great. If not you start again and ask what steps you can take from where you are then that will lead to the promotion and take them again. And check in a while later to see if that promotion is showing up yet in your future. Just keep at it until it does.

I love this method as I had an enormous success with it once in my love life and I never forgot that. :-)

Besides all the methods mentioned above the cards can help us achieve our goals in ways that are unrelated to readings. Tarot meditations are also useful tools to help us achieve our goals.

A good way is to meditate on the image of a card to bring more of the cards qualities into yourself. Tarot card images are designed to represent and embody the energy of the card, So focusing on the image in a meditation can help bring more of that energy to you. You can meditate on the Strength card if you feel you need more inner strength,  the lovers card to bring out more connection and love-based feelings, The Hanged man to help you accept what you need to or to see things in new ways....This can be very useful too in helping you deepen the skills you may need to succeed

If you don't fell sure of what you want to meditate on or gain more of, you can just look through a deck face up for a card whose image touches you emotionally. A negative emotional response shows something to work on. You can ask the cards later what and how to work on it. A positive emotional response is something you want to cultivate and grow. Meditation on that card will help you do just that.

By now I hope I have dispelled any myths that Tarot is just for asking about the future and shown to some extent a small part of all it can do and the wonder that is Tarot. And will that, my heart goes out to you and I truly wish you all the best of everything as we all work on our goals together.

Asking about Life

I got the idea for this topic this month from a post I saw on a Tarot bulletin board that I go to often. Someone there said that they don't believe we can, each of us on an individual basis, do much to change the world. I wasn't at all sure this was true.  I personally believe that each of us can take actions that spread out like ripples on a body of water. We can touch someone, who then touches others and it starts a chain reaction. Much like the person who invented the idea of paying it forward and now people all over have heard of it and benefiting from it. If we have a truly good idea, we can incite others to follow us. And we can certainly work together, doing group meditations and the like, which are more powerful than individual ones.

Since I had all this in mind, I decided to ask the cards this month for you: "What can we do, as individuals, to make the world around us a better place?"

I used an Oracle for you this time, one I don't believe I had ever used here before. This one is called "Sacred Path Cards" and its by Jamie Sams. It's a Native American themed deck, and one I absolutely love for that and because of the beauty of its messages, both those of its cards and those found in the book accompanying the deck (comes with an amazing hardcover book full of wisdom).

Question: What can we do, as individuals, to make the world around us a better place?

Card 1: South Shield (Innocence/Inner Child)

This to me says the start is to have faith in our abilities, to believe that we can be anything we want to be. Like the innocent state of a child who believes they can be anything at all they want to be when they grow up from.  This reading says that this is the start. The more you believe you can do, the more you can accomplish. And what you don't believe you can accomplish, you will most likely never try.

The image is saying to me that part  of the answer is also about being  faithful and true to the inner values and beliefs we learnt growing up.

It's also a card about keeping things in balance. about slowing down and really seeing and appreciating the best and the beauty of life. And that creating real lasting change works best when it comes from a positive place inside us, not from a negative one. From a love-based place instead of from a fear-based one. It helps to really be able to believe in the wonder of life and that anything is possible rather than to come at a problem filled with sarcasm, for example.

It's about keeping things in balance. While yes, some things in life could benefit from change, it's also important to keep your sense of humour. And that making time for physical exercise is as important as what is occupying your mind. And just stop and listen to your inner child and the real you inside.

Card 2: West Shield (Introspection/Goals)
This card says that an important part of how to help make the world a better place is to take the time to really stop and think about your goals. It's also important to be sure of what you hope to create, what it might lead to, if it is really for the best, or might something else do more ultimate good instead.

It's about our connection to the all, and to everything around us. And the interconnectedness of all things. Changing one thing, will affect others. And being able to see what is ultimately best in all areas. This card says we can know this by really looking into our hearts and deeply into our souls. The answer of what is ultimately best IS there inside us. And this card says it is important to take the time to look and look before trying to create change.

It's important to work from a pure place where you can see clearly and to be true to the inner you, not to be hampered by a need for the approval of others or things of that nature.

It's a matter of taking a look at the goals you feel you would like accomplish, before starting, and to try to see how they really would affect the future, in different areas.  To ask yourself if the desire to create these things is really coming from the real you deep inside, or is it being influenced in some way by the feeling and opinions of others which may not lead to the ultimate best path. This card says this can happen at times without our being aware of it. And that if you don't feel totally sure that your goals are coming from the real you deep inside, it's time to take a break, meditate if you wish, and think things out until you know your goals are coming from that place. Then you will be working from the right place to take action.

Card 3: Peyote Ceremony  (New Abilities)

This card is about learning from the past and discovering new abilities within yourself. Whatever has happened in the past, as human beings we also have the capacity to change, evolve and grow. We can nurture and develop new abilities within us at any time in our lives. Just as we can go back to school and take courses at any time in our lives, we are also very capable of learning new life lessons, and strengthening and improving all that we are at any time in our lives.

This means, for one thing, that 10 years from now we can become much more than we are now. And right now we are likely much more than we were 10 years ago. The change can be so gradual that at times we barely see it. But nevertheless it is there. Life is change. We develop new abilities every day even if that change is often gradual. So part of the answer from this card is to not feel you have to limit yourself according to what has happened to you in the past

If you tried to accomplish something in the past and it did not work as well as you had hoped, that doesn't at all have to mean that you cannot succeed now. This card says that if you don't have to expect that something that did not work as well as you had hoped in the past will not work well this time. By now you have likely developed some new skills and abilities. You are more than you were then, as we constantly grow. And from where you are now you can see the entirely of that situation in the past and why things worked out as they did,. From that vantage point you can think out different methods that are more likely to be successful for you.

So, the message here is a lot about not limiting yourself, not telling yourself that you can only go so far or do so much, because in the past that is the most you could achieve. This card asks you not to just assume that. If  you push at those limits, you may very well see that you can now achieve a whole lot more than you imagined.

This card asks you to see yourself as someone who is always learning and growing. Look for new ways to be more than you have been in the past. Talk to others who know things and have qualities you admire. Take classes or read some books if there is something you would like to strengthen of improve. And don't place limits on yourself.  You are very very likely much more inside than you realize even now.

Card 4: flipped Medicine Bundle (Allies/Support)

This is the last card in answer to this question. It is also a flipped card. Meaning a card that flipped out of the deck during shuffling. A flipped card in a reading shows issues that are a bit complex and it asks that you stop and think over the answer given in the card. It says there is something a bit deep there, that you may not fully see the first time you read the answer.

And this card clearly says that, well, you are never alone really. No one lives in a vacuum and no man is an island. We all have allies and the support of others in the world around us to help us see things in different ways, to help us find inner strength, to know we are never alone and to be the best we personally can be.

Depending on your belief system, this can be talking about caring people in our lives: friends, family, teachers and people we admire. Or if that is part of your belief system, you could also see this as support from the Universe/Spirit. But either way the end result is that as individuals we are never totally alone. We always have the support of others around us to help us....

This card says that knowing and remembering things can be healing to you. Even doing things that remind you can be helpful, like wearing the shirt given to you by someone whose courage you admire can be helpful when you need to face something requiring courage. As a help to remind you they are there with you in spirit and to ask yourself what they would do and how they would proceed in the same situation.

This card says to remember and to respect those who are here in this world to help you. Let their love and  strengths help heal you. No matter what you face in life you have that support of those who care. And this card says it is also important to remember your role in helping these people who are their for you when they need your help.

Although the question was about what we can all do as individuals to make the world a better place, the answer here focused more on how to do it than what to actually do. I think the reason for that is found in Card 2. The answer is an individual thing. You have to find it inside you, from the real you deep inside. We are each of us individuals gifted with a unique set of talents. The answer will be different for each of us.

BUT, also, I think it is safe to say from this reading that some things any of us CAN do to help make the world a better place is to help others get in touch with the parts of them that will help them send out that kind of energy. Eg helping others to see life events positively and to have faith in life, to help them see how to set the most effective goals for them according to what their true inner self tells them, to help them learn new things and to see themselves as growing beings who are learning new things and improving as time passes.  And to be there for the people in your life and help them remember they are never alone....

October 2013 Friendship Reading

This month, I pulled out another deck for you that I have not used in ages: The Baroque Bohemian Cats' Tarot. by Alex Ukolov and  Karen Mahony. I just felt like it as it's so pretty and the artwork is so detailed, which helps me read better.

And this month, I asked it for you: "What can you do this month that will bring you the most inner happiness and fulfilment?"

The answers were:

Card 1: 4 of Swords (reversed)

What was very interesting in this reading is that all the cards were either Major Arcana cards (about important life lessons that your life is working to teach you this month) and Swords (about your thoughts, It really boils down to your thoughts, this reading says. Think happy thoughts you will be happy, think sad thoughts you will feel sad. It's as simple as that.

This first card is from the suit of Swords, so yes it's about your thoughts and the way you think about things. it's a reversed 4, which for me is about taking things slowly, keeping things in balance, thinking before you act. moving with purpose and intention. So the essence of the meaning of this card here is to try to be aware of the ways your thoughts affect your moods and to try to keep things in that area in balance. That will lead to a happier month for you this month, this card says

As for the image, it's just crying out here to give any negative thoughts a rest, allow yourself a rest from them this month. Worrying never helped anything, see if you can think of one time it did,. If not, give yourself a month where you try not to give into anything of that kind. Or even a week or day can be a good place to start.

The stained glass window in the background says that when we give in to unhappy thought, the ones that make us feel unhappy, we are turning our back on our faith in life and in the world. While we see warm colours at the center of the window, looking like a flame. This says that at its core, life is warmth.  When we  truly believe that no matter what everything will work out for the best, there is no need for unhappy thoughts. Part of this message also asks you to make some time to TALK to people you know who seem to have a positive outlook on the parts of life you find harder to deal with, see if their thoughts differ from yours, how and why,  and how what you can learn from that.

Card 2: Hermes

This  card really does not belong to any of the suits or to the Major Arcana. It's an extra card in the deck, which has 79 cards. Although I tend to consider it as one of the Major Arcana cards anyway.

Either way its message is that....well... that you are going to get a message. Hermes was the messenger of the gods, so it's all about that. It says that you are going to get a message about what you can do this month to bring more joy and fulfillment into your life. Slow down, make room and watch for it. :-)

It might be something you dream, something someone tells you, something you learn directly from your life experiences this month, but it will be there. And if you pay attention you will see it. Might even come in more than one form. But there is a lesson you can learn on this this month, and you will get a message (or more than one) on the topic,

What I see in the images here in the winged cap, is the message will be something that makes your thoughts take flight. It will allow you to feel you can truly open up and show your real inner self to others. it can make you feel more lighthearted and light on your feet. And to make others want to reach out to you and communicate and share. It will be a healing message.

Card 3: flipped 2 of Swords

Here's another card about your thoughts and the way you think, a Swords card. It`s the 2, and 2s are about interactions between yourself and another person or situation. So really this card here in this reading is about the way you tend to think about something or something in you life. It`s advice is to try to choose to look at the people and events in your life in the ways that make you happiest and you to feel lead to inner fulfillment. There are always many sides to any issue and many ways to view any one thing.

This card says to not hold onto any thoughts or ways of thinking that make you sad or hold you back from your happiness if you want to happy and fulfilled. Sounds logical and makes sense, but sometimes a bit harder to put into practice. Still this cards says the benefits to you this month from doing so will be large.

What you see in the image is the cat (who does represent you here) examining closely two swords, two different ways of thinking. This card is suggestion you do just that. Take a good look at the way you have been thinking about anything getting you down, see where that way of thinking is leading you and if that is really where you want to go. if not, work on "closing the gate" on those kinds of thoughts and putting them behind you.

It's all about following the thought that make you feel warm, full and happy inside.

Cards 4 & 5: flipped The Sun and 3 of Swords

These last two cards are not just flipped cards, which they are, but also form a card duo. They are flipped cards, cards that flipped out of the deck during shuffling. As such, they contain message that it will be easier to see if you reread them. The card duo comes up when two cards flip out of the deck as a pair, and that strongly connects the meanings of the two cards.

First you have the Sun. This is probably the most important card of this reading. It is a Major Arcana card which tells you that there is an important life lesson that you can learn from the message of this card. And the fact that the card came up as a flipped card also adds to its importance.

The Sun is really all about all the good positive things we get from the real sun: warmth, clarity, that feeling of well=being and that all is right with the world, joy and happiness...Whatever else you can think of about the sun that is happy and positive, feel free to add that in.

This reading really shows this as a great month of self-examination on what makes you happy and fulfilled and how to achieve them. The cat in this image (yes she represents you again) has his eyes wide open. It's about really stopping to take a good look and seeing things clearly. And what he is looking at here is in the past. So this card starts by asking you to take a good look at what has made you feel happy and fulfilled in the past. If you want to recreate that this month, it helps to know what brings it about.

Take a time out to look at your past, years of decades ago, to a time when you can remember feeling most happy and fulfilled. To a time when you felt most strongly that feeling of warmth, well-being and that all was right with the world and perfect just as it is. Now is the time to look at that. What is different between where you are now and then?  What is better? What would you like to be more like it was? How can you get back there? And/Or how can you celebrate being where you are now?

The second card of the card duo is the 3 of Swords, so the last card of the reading goes back to your thoughts once again and how you choose to think about and view things. Since the first card of the reading was also a Swords card, you could say that this is where it all starts and ends when it comes to your happiness and fulfillment, with your thoughts and the way you think about things.

3's are about being kind, caring and nurturing, supportive, open and empathetic. This particular card tells you that choosing these kinds of thoughts (BOTH about others and about yourself) is what will lead you to those feelings of warmth, well-being and that feeling that life is perfect and that all is right with the world. These two cards together say that if you choose to think kind, open, supportive empathetic, thoughts that is what will being you those feelings of warmth and well being. It's about having faith in life and in people and in the world around us.

And as for card image for the 3 of Swords, you see the cat with a stage behind her that she. You can say that she has turned her back on any feeling that she needs to put on an act around others. She is able to just openly be herself in all situations.

And she hold the Cupid near her, close to her heart. This all says that if you just be yourself and hold love,, loving feelings and love-based thoughts close to your heart, you'll find that happiness and fulfillment. You'll draw those feelings to you.  Her blue skirt also says it's not about skirting issues of avoiding them. Open communication will help too. It's how you look at the world, that's the key
