The Readings by SunChariot Newsletter
October 2012 Edition
Volume 4, Edition 10

Welcome back to the Readings by SunChariot newsletter!

This is going to me an interesting edition as I added in two extra things for you that I truly found a lot of fun. You will see additional sections in this edition. One called "Fun Things" and the other called "Useful Web Sites". These two may no appear in every edition, as I do come across any interesting web sites or fun things they will pop up here and again. I hope you enjoy them this month.:-)

So here we are in October, which has always been a fun time of year of me as my sister was born that month (on the 31st, on Halloween no less).  I have to say I have lots of good childhood memories of this month.  Of dressing up and of candy. And well I do love to eat, which is why I am starting a diet this month.  Wish me luck. :-)
This month just seems like a good time to get to work on my goals and making my life what I most want it to be.  I wish for you all your wishes and goals to come true as well. You will see info in this newsletter to help you with that.  I hope it is helpful to you and I wish you a lovely month of October,

(By the way, this newsletter is so long that it did not fit all on one page. LOL But I did not forget your Friendship Readings. The last two sections came out on the previous page. You can see them by clicking on the link to the right for them. OR by clicking on  the "older posts" link at the bottom of this page. The last section shows one of my vacation photos
 :-)  )

The kinds of relationship questions that will work and the ones that won't

(photo courtesy of the very talented Ciro Marchetti, taken from the free downloads section of his site:

.................I was there as I just cannot wait to get a copy of his Oracle of Visions!  More on that later, when i get my copy) :-)

I chose this topic this month for two reasons. First that a good number of readings I personally get asked to do ARE in fact relationship questions. And  next to address the issue that there are in fact certain types of questions that the cards just will not answer.

I think it's natural enough that people ask so often about the relationships in their lives. Our relationships with others are such an important part of our lives, and often the part that carries the most emotion.

But yes, there are certain types of questions the cards will not generally answer. Tarot (or any form of divination really) is a tool to improve things, to make life better, to make the world a better place. That means to improve things and to make life better for all the people involved in the issue.

Some examples of questions the cards just will not answer are any questions  asking how to harm another human being. I have heard other readers tell me that someone asked them how to best seek revenge on someone.  However strongly that person feels they want revenge, you can count on the cards to refuse outright to answer that.  They will never tell us how to harm someone.

Another less obvious example is asking something like "What can I do now to make X love me?"  This one doesn't tend to sound as bad. And  I have gotten this question myself a few times. It's in the phrasing of the question, about trying to "make" someone do something. Other people have free will just as we do. We do not have the right to try to make them do anything they are no naturally inclined to do on their own. In the same sense as we would not like someone to make us love them, or force us to do so against our will.  So you can expect the cards not to answer that question, and they won't.

I believe it is fine to ask what you can do to help encourage X to love you. In that case you ought to get info on what X finds lovable, which ways of talking and being that he/ feels most drawn to. E,g. if X values openness, it might be a good idea to talk openly about your feelings. But in the end while we have the ability to adjust our own way of thinking and feeling and being, we do not have the right to try to force someone to change theirs.

I lot of readers will not touch "3rd party readings", readings where the querent (person asking the question) is asking about someone else. Opinions vary on that, but to me it depends. It depends on the reason the querent is asking. If it is just out of curiosity or wanting to gossip about what they hear, then no. And the cards can be quite firm. When we are not meant to know something they just will not tell us.

I once did a reading for a friend asking something as simple as what her future with a man she cared deeply about was. I got cards telling me not to tell her and she was not meant to know.. This is rare, but it happened that one time. I had to tell her the cards did not want to tell her or for her to know. She then told me she had had readings from 4 other readers on that question so far and they have ALL told her the same thing. There are occasions when we are just not meant to know something. When we need to learn what we will learn from experiencing it firsthand.

But as far as third party readings go, my view is that as long ans the person is asking out of a true desire to create something good and helpful to all concerned, then it is fine. E,g. if a friend is feeling depressed and you ask how to understand where they are so you can help them heal, to me that is fine. Or if you are fighting with someone, and you ask about their feelings, and if the knowing will help you understand so you can resolve your issues, that's fine too. As you can presume the other person is not enjoying the fighting either and would prefer things resolved too.

And, naturally questions on if someone is cheating on someone are things you have to be extremely careful on, and that many readers would refuse to read on.

To me, the basic rule is that any question that will lead to an answer that will benefit all concerned is a good question the cards will want us to know the answer to. And any question where knowing the answer and/or acting on it will cause harm to yourself or to others, will likely not be answered.

And it seems to work best to focus on answers that will help you act in different ways, in ways that will improve things.

Some examples of some potentially useful questions along those lines would be:

  • Can you give me insight into ways to help fix -------------- between  X and I?
  • What steps can I take that will help improve our relationship?
  • What is happening when I try to talk to X and he does not seem to be listening?  (knowing the answer can help you adjust what you need to to improve you communication together and that leads to lots of benefits(
  • How can I encourage X to listen more at those times?
  • What would be the best way (or time) to bring up ---------- with X?
  • Please help me understand -------------- about X?
  • What role am I playing now in the way things are working out with X?
  • What can I do that will lead to the best relationship between X and I?
Those are just some examples, but there are many other potential questions that could work to improve a relationship,

Useful Web Sites

I came across these two web sites recently and I just had to share with you here. I'm feeling pretty excited about them and am getting ready to try them out.

They are both sites on how to help you achieve your goals, and well....that's what we all want to do, isn't it? :-)

Here is a site to help you work on your goals and to keep you motivated.

And the second, here,  is a online dream board site. I have to say I have always been a big fan of positive visualization and although I have never yet actually tried to use a dream board, I have always been fascinated with the idea and have always wanted to try. So here is my chance and I am going to work with this site now.

Hope you enjoy these two also, and that they mean something to you in your life. And from what I can see, both sites seem to be free.

Fun Things

I just had to show you these chairs for little girls that  I found in the pharmacy near my house after work one day.  I just found them so adorable I had to share. You just never know when you'll just be walking around minding your own business and then your life will send you something fun:-)

Asking About Life

I decided that I have been focusing too much on Tarot decks lately and not enough on Oracles decks for you here.  So I am using only Oracles for you this month.  These are the Earth Magic Cards, by Steven D. Farmer. It felt like such a good match for the question I chose this month. :-)

This month I asked for  you:

What is the nature of our connection to the world we live in?

The cards said:

Card 1--River: Movement

Isn't this a stunning image??? I just love this deck!

The first part of this answer as given by this deck, is something I found interesting. This card is saying that our connection to the world we live in is not a static thing. It changes and moves throughout our lives. There's an ebb and flow to it. While we are always part this world and of life, what this is saying to me is that sometimes we embrace that connection and feel it at its strongest level. And at other times, we don't seem to feel it as strongly, and at times almost to try to push it away. And anything in between.

Mountains, to me, tend to represent wisdom and knowledge. And the beautiful sunset is reminding me right now of the sunsets while I was on vacation. And that of course reminds me of relaxation. All that adds in that the world around us has a wisdom to it. There's a wisdom to the world. The same wisdom that knows how to make the seasons come at just the right time, that knows how to heal a forest after a fire, that controls all the unconscious parts of your body, and many other such things that are miracles but that we often take for granted. There is a natural wisdom to things and if we just relax into it that is when we are most connected.

This card says there is a natural movement and wisdom to life, to the world. It's a gentle movement and it will always lead us in our best direction if we let it. This card is saying that we do have a natural connection to the world around us. But when we try to block that flow or take our lives in a direction that is against it, it makes it harder to achieve our goals.  The expression "Go with the flow" really applies here. When we go with the natural flow of our lives, things run more smoothly and the natural wisdom that is this world will ensure that we get to the right place.

Card 2--Forest: Breath

Taken in the most literal sense, our connection to the world is a necessary one. The trees literally give us the oxygen we need to breathe. And they always have and we depend on them for that. The world/planet meets all our physical needs for survival: food, shelter,....And when our physical needs are met that gives us the space to not have to think of that and to follow our feelings and our spirits.

Leaving aside the physical aspects, the world and nature bring joy and light and wonder and love to our souls. Trees/forests encapture a depth of beauty that makes our spirits soar.  Our souls are so deeply touched by the  world's natural sights, sounds and odors because we are just that connected.

Spending time in nature is relaxing. It encourages us to slow down and let go of anything hectic. The sights and sounds are "naturally" relaxing. Thus all the nature sounds CDs for meditations and such. And there is definitely a lot we can learn by observing nature, things that can help us deal with all aspects of our lives.

Literally everything in our lives and all we see around us (our homes, our cell phones, our cars... and even our friends and family) are all of this world, from this world and a part of what it means to be in this world.

There is nothing that we know and love that is not of this world. That is how strong the connection is. It is all-encompassing.

Card 3--flipped Gaia: Nurturing

This card, and the next, are flipped cards. A flipped card for me is a card that drew attention to itself during the shuffling process. When a flipped card comes up it says that if you stop and think about its message a bit, you will see something there that you did not catch at first glance.

This card is an image of Mother Earth/Gaia lovingly looking after all in her domain, all that is there on the Planet Earth. The card is called Nurturing. So it is the image of her being caring, nurturing, and protective of all this is of this world and all that is nature: the plants, the animals, the mountains, and yes that includes us human beings as well. :-)

The image shows her lovingly, caringly and attentively doing just that. In that sense she is the personification of the world. And she is there looking after us constantly, providing for our physical and emotional and spiritual needs. And, when we are willing to listen, giving us guidance. So this is the message of this card. That our connection to the world is not one-sided. Not only are we connected to the world, but the world is connected to us.  There is the kind of connection that goes both ways.

This card is saying that part of the natural rhythm of the world is to look after us and meet our needs. And hopefully there are times when we can do something to look after it as well. :-)

Card 4-- flipped Ancestors: Generations

This is a really interesting card here. It is saying that our connection to the world lasts through all the generations of our lives (how could it not?) But it is saying even more than that, that is lasts longer than our individual lifetimes.

I don't generally like to touch on topics like reincarnation when doing group readings to be read by hundreds of people (as in this blog) as I know that is not part of everyone's belief systems. But it's possibly a hint at that.

If that is not part of your belief system, the card is also saying that our connection to the world can outlast our lifetime here on earth. When we lay our hands to creating something it can outlast us. Architects can build buildings that will outlast their lifetimes.  The effects we have on the environment can outlast us. Even the knowledge that we gain and pass on to future generations....

This card is, in fact, called Generations. And this part of the answer is about how we use our connection in ways that will be passed on to future generations. We are also connected to the world by what we create and by what we pass on to the others who come after us.

This card is about thinking about what has been passed on to you. When you think of it, a lot of our beliefs were passed on to us through many generations, starting with ancestors we never met. So this card is about what has been passed down to you through your ancestor's connection to you, And what you would like to pass down to future generations, with that connection that you know have, that lets you do so.
